Are You a Newcomer to Canada?
Are you Looking for a Way to Give Back to Community?
Or Hone your Financial Management Skills?
The Private Refugee Sponsor Network (Ontario), is a not-for-profit organization established informally in 2016 and incorporated in 2021. The Network serves private refugee sponsors through information-sharing, problem-solving and training with a goal of best practice to ensure the efficient and effective settlement of newcomers to Canada. Its mandate is connection, learning, sharing. It is governed by a board of 10 members along with seven committees.
We are searching for a volunteer treasurer, who will participate as a board member and will help with budgeting, accounting and regular reporting to the Board with the support from a volunteer administrator. The Network functions at a basic minimum level with little or no funding. The treasurer will have an opportunity to set up accounting procedures and regular reporting at board meetings. Current financial management is carried out by a partner organization with monthly statements provided to the Network. The treasurer will determine what tools he/she requires for this position.
Two-hour, online Board meetings are held every two months, or at the call of the chair, with minimal work required monthly, estimated at about two hours. There is an opportunity to participate with the Network’s sustainability committee.
Prior community board service would be an asset and we value diversity and encourage candidates from various ethnicities, races, gender identities and religions, and those who are newcomers to Canada.
If you are a newcomer to Canada, or looking for an opportunity to give back after a successful career in financial management, or, if you are in early or mid-career and are looking for a community opportunity, Barbara Sheffield, b.sheffield@rogers.com, would love to hear of your interest and receive a resume outlining your experience. Submissions should include the reason you would like to serve community in this way. Our nominations committee will review CVs and contact those to be interviewed.
