Reporting to the CAO, the Controller plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the operation of the financial and accounting operations of GRFN. 

  • Ensures the development, implementation and compliance of financial policies and procedures.
  • Prepare the preparation of financial statements, summaries and other cost-benefit analyses and financial management reports.
  • Evaluate financial reporting systems.
  • Monitoring and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors.
  • Ensures that financial risks are minimized, and investments are maximized.
  • Manages corporate budget and ensure that staff budgets are accurate, analyzed and complaint with legislation and funding.
  • Create, manage and implement reporting as required.
  • Complies with legislation and accounting principles that affect and/or govern first nation and advising senior administration and council on needed action.
  • Maintains professional certification.
  • Provides risk management to the corporation.
  • Promotes and ensures a safe workplace environment.
  • Facilitates internal relations with all staff and stakeholders of the First Nation programs and services.
  • Managing and Supervising Staff.
  • Excellent professional (ethical/moral) conduct.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) certification. MBA.
  • Required five years related job experience.
  • Ability to work after hours and on weekend to attend meetings.
  • Travel is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting, reporting, monitoring, forecasting, analyzing financial and non-financial data.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and knowledge of the First Nation cultural values and traditions.
  • Stamina, sensitivity, and strong negotiating and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent computer skills (including Microsoft Office, internet, email, outlook, and financial management software; computer operations, Sage.
  • Must undergo a background check prior to employment.
