The challenges you will help solve:
MCIS Finance Committee is looking for talented and enthusiastic professionals to join our Board Committees and contribute to our organization by assisting our Board of Directors and Management team in operationalizing its strategic goals.
A Committee Member is a subject matter expert who is well informed about MCIS’ overall operations and the relevant Committee’s role and activities. While Committees operationalize the Board’s strategic objectives, they may offer the Executive Director support and counsel on day-to-day financial matters. Committee Members serve in an advisory capacity to the Board.
We are looking for individuals who have expertise working in any or all of the following areas:

Position: Committee Member, MCIS Finance Committee

Position Overview:
MCIS Finance Committee is looking for talented and enthusiastic professionals to join our Board Committees and contribute to our organization by assisting our Board of Directors and Management team to operationalize its strategic financial goals.
Duties:
A Committee Member is a subject matter expert well-informed about MCIS’ operations and the Committee’s role and activities. While Committees operationalize the Board’s strategic objectives, they may also support and counsel both the Executive Director and Director of Finance on day-to-day financial matters.
The Committee has the responsibility to:
Operate within its terms of reference. Serve in an advisory capacity to the Board. Set the Committee’s goals and objectives and assist the Executive Director and staff in developing the financial operational plan. Ensure that recommendations made to the Board of Directors are empirically sound and consider all relevant financial factors. Individual Committee Members have a responsibility to:
Work on tasks that fulfill the strategic objectives of the Board for the specific committee. Participate in a process that advises the Board on decisions related to the Committee’s financial expertise. Take on time-limited projects that assist Management in fulfilling its financial operational objectives. Be informed about the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs. Keep up to date with developments in the organization’s field by seeking input from internal and external stakeholders. Adhere to all relevant MCIS policies, including conflict of interest and confidentiality policies. Assist the Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibilities related to the Committee’s duties. Attend all committee meetings, functions, and dedicated events such as the AGM, adhering to the Non-Director Attendance Policy. Review agenda, minutes, and supporting materials before committee meetings. Suggest nominees to the committees who can make significant contributions to the Board and the organization. Develop and maintain positive relations with Committee, Board, staff, and community members to enhance MCIS’s mission and promote its interests and well-being.
Term:
Committee Members serve for 2-year terms, with the option for renewal in accordance with MCIS’ by-laws. Committee Members may leave at the end of the elected term or resign prior to it. Committee members may be invited to apply for Board positions during their term.
Qualifications & Skills:
Ability to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, and collaborate well with people individually and in groups. Willingness to prepare for and attend committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility, and follow through on assignments, contribute resources generously according to circumstances, and open doors in the community. Ability to evaluate oneself and develop skills if not already possessed, such as learning more about the organization’s substantive financial and legal areas. Possess honesty, sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views, a friendly, responsive, and patient approach, community-building skills, personal integrity, a developed sense of values, and a sense of humor. Expertise in finance, including financial strategy and planning, audit and risk management, legal/regulatory compliance, and corporate governance. Skills in areas such as mergers and acquisitions or financial technology are considered an asset. Experience conducting business overseas, providing a global perspective. A Committee Member’s performance is evaluated annually by the Committee Chair and Vice-Chair based on the performance of assigned Committee requirements and duties.
