St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton is currently seeking a Director, Corporate Finance.

Position Summary:

The Director, Corporate Finance reports to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, and is a driven, dedicated, proactive and confident individual.  As a member and leader of the Finance Team, this position works in collaboration with clinical and corporate support leadership. He/she is an experienced business partner who will be responsible for delivering insightful analysis and meaningful financial and operational reporting that supports timely and sound business decision making. He/she is expected to exercise sound judgment, tact and to demonstrate exceptional levels of customer service to other departments by providing professional expertise, advice and assistance as required. He/she will work cohesively with Finance leadership and will demonstrate organizational values by leading with example. This role is instrumental in achievement of the goals and objectives of the Finance Department in alignment with the Vision, Mission and Values of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. 

The Director, Corporate Finance and the Financial Services team are dedicated to ensuring the financial health and integrity of the Hospital, measurement of performance and financial reporting.  This includes oversight over the infrastructure necessary to support this, including general accounting, payroll, accounts payable, patient billings, and financial systems. The Director, Corporate Finance will provide strategic leadership oversight and direction in the development, implementation, and management of financial, accounting, and reporting policies, processes, and operational activities that meet all Ministry of Health (MOH) and legal and regulatory requirements.  This position will also manage the ongoing development and adaptation of the financial systems to respond to the changing funding environment, support the Hospital’s fiscal strategy and meet external reporting requirements. 

The Director will be accountable for oversight of the external audit and reporting requirements to the Ministry of Health and will ensure compliance with various Government departments regarding taxation, payroll, and other legislation, including evaluation of proposed changes.  The Director will ensure all transactions comply with Accounting Standards and will be responsible for research, analysis and implementation of any new or changing guidelines and/or standards.  The Director will oversee and review all balance sheet accounts and ensure there are efficient and effective processes in-place for all Finance workflows, while ensuring appropriate internal controls are functioning effectively with respect to processing and approvals of transactions in order to safeguard resources.  This position will assess financial information needs of Senior Management, Board of Directors and funding agencies.  The Director is also responsible for supporting the Financial Systems and making recommendations for improvements as required.  

The Director will provide support to cash flow forecasting and capital transactions as required, including impact on cash flow, internal allocation of capital sources of funds.  This position will understand and interpret obligations under legal agreements with a variety of external partners. 

The position must be able to operate at both a strategic and tactical level and have the ability to translate analytical results/research into recommendations for Senior Management and/or the Board.  

Related Financial Policies and Procedures will be the responsibility of the Director.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance required
  • Masters Degree in Business or Health Administration preferred
  • Professional Membership with Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) is required
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting (preferred) overseeing a broad range of financial services, preferably in a Director role
  • In-depth management experience in complex and dynamic public health care environments in finance with expert understanding of one or more health care sectors
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and provincial legislation affecting hospitals
  • Financial planning, analysis and risk management
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of hospital funding and hospital operations
  • Demonstrated experience performing financial analyses and critical evaluations of complex financial programs
  • Demonstrated experience with operational or strategic decision-making related to program funding
  • Experience leading the budgeting process, including the development of operational budgets
  • Experience performing monthly program analysis
  • Experience and understanding of MOH/OH West regulations and reporting requirements (including MIS guidelines)
  • Experience with hospital financial information systems and advanced proficiency with Microsoft applications
