and Become CPA Ontario’s Subject Matter Expert on Sustainability 

 

CPA Ontario is currently in search of a Director, Sustainability Standards who will shape future domestic and international sustainability standards and regulations for the accounting profession. In this role you will be responsible for keeping up to date and informed on the latest Sustainability/ Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting frameworks, standards and initiatives impacting the profession, and will support members, and internal stakeholders, with their questions on ESG related services. 

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

Conducting ongoing research and keeping up-to-date and informed about Sustainability/ ESG developments by the regulators and standard setters including but not limited to  the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), the Canadian Sustainability Standards Board (CSSB), the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB) and the Canadian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AASB), the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group’s Sustainability Reporting Board, and the Security Exchange Commission (SEC) and educating members and internal stakeholders on the changes and their impact.

Providing input to Sustainability/ ESG public consultations issued by the ISSB, the IAASB, the AASB the CSSB, the SEC, and others where relevant.

Advising members on ESG related services by preparing articles, blogs, implementation guidance and webinars for sustainability related emerging issues, trends, standards, and best practices.

Assessing how assurance standards and integrated reporting are impacted by Sustainability/ESG developments, evaluating their impact on the auditing profession, and advising the Practice Inspection team on developments in ESG assurance.

Representing CPA Ontario on various provincial and national committees and providing feedback on technical matters in relation to Sustainability/ ESG.

 

Who You Are:

A post-secondary graduate in Business and preferably Sustainability Management, Climate Policy, Public Policy or a related-environmental discipline who has completed the CPA program and are a CPA member in good standing.  

A subject matter expert with a minimum 3 years of relevant work experience with Sustainability/ESG-related standards and/or frameworks including the International Sustainability Standards Board, the Global Reporting Initiative, the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board, and the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures combined with your experience with Audit and Assurance standards.

A strong communicator (verbally and written) with excellent interpersonal, presentation, relationship building, and public speaking skills.

Extremely organized with a proven ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and excel at time management combined with a high degree of attention to accuracy and detail.

Self-driven and able to act on your own initiative and work independently within the scope of the position’s responsibilities.
