The Senior Accountant assists with supporting the accounting team in the delivery of the highest standard of internal and external financial reporting.  They protect corporate assets by proposing, developing and implementing policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Preparing monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP/AESP
  • Providing guidance to Accounts Payable and Credit & Collections teams with general ledger and system queries.
  • Recording and maintaining capital assets records, initiating monthly depreciation and reporting
  • Analyzing balance sheet and P&L accounts, investigate discrepancies and provide commentary
  • Preparing year-end audit working papers and assist with leading audit queries.
  • Assisting with government audits in the preparation and support of working paper files.
  • Working closely with the Controller to identify efficiencies and implement controls.
  • Assisting with analysis during physical inventory counts.
  • Providing informal day-to-day guidance and/or coaching to team members
  • Providing feedback on team’s performance to Controller

Experience, Skills & Competencies:

  • Post-secondary education in accounting or finance Accounting designation required (CPA, CGA, CMA)
  • 9+ years progressive accounting experience at a senior level with previous supervisory/leadership experience
  • Experience with major ERP system (SAP preferred)
  • Relevant accounting experience, including financial reporting and controls
  • Excellent knowledge of business systems, controls and reporting systems
  • Excellent knowledge in accounting policies and procedures
  • Fully computer literate with extensive MS Excel skills. 
  • Solid skills in other MS software (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with all levels across the organization
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal Strong quantitative and analytical skills
