Primary Objectives:

Reporting to the Manager - Financial Reporting, the Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in providing expertise in areas of: financial reporting under US GAAP, IFRS, regulatory compliance, and support for periodic regulatory filings. This role will be well-suited to a business-minded, dynamic CPA holder with strong experience in the insurance industry, and ideally experience with IFRS 17 and regulatory requirements.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting, including oversight for preparation of:
  • Monthly financial reporting package for US parent company
  • Monthly financial reporting package for Canadian management team
  • Key materials for quarterly Board of Directors meetings
  • Financial analysis, reconciliation and quality control of:
  • Contingent profit commission calculations
  • Monthly financial reporting packages / dashboard
  • Preparation of monthly US GAAP reporting package and reconciliation to policy management system data and US GAAP results
  • Collaboration with internal teams:
  • Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, and functional areas
  • Regulatory Reporting - provision of IFRS results for OSFI filings
  • Collaboration with Canadian, US and European affiliates for internal reporting
  • External Audit support, including:
  • Preparation of key IFRS / GAAP schedules for annual audited financial statements
  • Other support, including:
  • Coaching, mentoring and development of team members
  • Ad hoc requests from management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Recognized accounting designation, preferably Chartered Professional Accountant
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in the insurance industry, preferably in property & casualty
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP and IFRS17
  • Experience with Infor Sun Financial Systems, SAP, and Power BI, would be considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
