What You Will do:
The Senior Rates Analyst plays a key role in GBE’s financial planning and analysis and regulatory filings. This position is responsible for compiling data, reporting on, and analysing GBE’s revenue, electricity purchases, and customer statistics; managing the regulatory deferral variance accounts; preparing financial schedules and information for regulatory compliance filings and applications; providing financial support during regulatory applications; and verifying the calculation of new rates on customer bills.
Major Responsibilities:
- Calculate and analyse unbilled revenues and regulatory deferral account balances in accordance with Ontario Energy Board guidelines.
- Create detailed monthly variance analysis on distribution revenue, electricity sales, and electricity purchases attributing variances to consumption, rate, and customer count differences by rate class.
- Prepare and provide analytical support to monthly revenue reporting and commentary that provides a comprehensive summary of performance and reconciles net movements in deferral and variance accounts.
- Support regulatory application filings (e.g., annual rate application) with the Ontario Energy Board by preparing financial models, load forecasts, and distribution system plans.
- Support annual record keeping requirements with the Ontario Energy Board and prepare industry benchmarking analyses. Participate in year-end audits related to regulatory accounting matters.
- Verify the accuracy of the calculation of new customer rates on customer bills.
- Drive continuous improvement in revenue and regulatory accounting processes, leveraging technology to streamline operations, increase efficiency and improve internal controls.
- Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting as required.
What You Will Bring:
- Minimum of five years of experience in a finance or regulatory role, and a professional accounting designation is required.
- A sound working knowledge of utility accounting and regulatory issues is an asset.
- The successful candidate will have strong strategic, analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of management.
- With solid business analysis and planning experience, the candidate is able to handle multiple projects, work under pressure, and exercise good judgement in prioritizing tasks.
- Proficient use in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint, is required.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with multiple stakeholder groups and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture.
