We are looking for a Director of Finance to join our talented team 3 days a week.
Please note the location of this position will be determined later in the recruitment process based on organizational business needs and the successful candidate’s location in Canada.
NATURE & SCOPE:
The Director of Finance is CKC’s senior finance role and is a key member of the Leadership Team. The role is responsible for the accuracy of the financial systems including financial reporting, strategic financial management, budgeting and forecasting, risk management, internal controls, financial policy, and balance sheet management. The position will provide a financial viewpoint at the leadership table for all key decisions. This is a hands-on role which leads and supports the small and dedicated finance team while supporting other departments for improved and accurate financial processes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure complete, accurate and compliant financial processing
- Maintain and evolve the suite of financial reporting, including the presentation of simplified and meaningful reports for the Board of Directors
- Responsible for the organization’s adherence to our existing financial policies while providing recommendations to improve policies and processes
- Responsible for the health of the organization’s balance sheet and cash flows as well as the proper allocation and management of reserve funds
- Work with the Executive Director and Audit committee to highlight and solve for financial risks and opportunities
- Work with the leadership team to recommend, assess, prioritize and execute on strategic priorities
- Support all departments on the financial considerations of their team’s priorities including, operational processing, IT, product development, sponsorship and communications
- Staff liaison for the Audit Committee and supports the ED with board liaison activities
- Leads the annual budgeting, reforecasting and annual audit processes and is the senior liaison with our external audit partners
- Signs off on the month end process and supports the Finance Manager with any related accounting considerations
- Supports in the sourcing, negotiation and maintenance of key vendor and service contracts
- Supports with potential to lead privacy and legal initiatives
- Supports with potential to lead strategy development
- Lead on key projects as defined by CKC strategy and priorities from the leadership
- Provides effective direction and leadership to staff, including effective change management, performance evaluation and encouragement of staff participation in personal and professional development
- Other responsibilities as required

- Experience with volunteer committees and passionate Board of Directors
- Love of purebred dogs

- CKC is a dog friendly work environment – comfort with dogs is required
EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ years hands on experience as the financial leader in a small to mid-sized organization with non-for-profit experience an asset
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Canadian Accounting designation
