The Health Products Stewardship Association (HPSA) is seeking a highly motivated General Accountant to join our team.
Employer: HPSA is a non-profit organization committed to facilitating safe disposal programs (stemming from Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) related regulatory requirements) for unwanted medications and used medical sharps, on behalf of its member pharmaceutical manufacturers.
About the role. The General Accountant will be responsible for key accounting processes and ensure good record keeping for reporting purposes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for full cycle accounting, and day to day financial transactions
- Prepare and record journal entries, reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure the integrity of financial data.
- Conduct bank reconciliation on a regular basis and resolve discrepancies.
- Work with the team to complete the month end closing process on time, produce monthly reports.
- Process accounts payable transactions, verify invoices, and reconcile vendor statements.
- Coordinate payroll processing and ensure timely and accurate payroll payments.
- Prepare and file tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations. Prepare and maintain accurate financial records and statements for the organization.
- Assist with year-end closing processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams to support financial reporting and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and regulations. Provide support for annual audits.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial information and exercise discretion in handling sensitive data. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proven work experience as a General Accountant or similar role, with specific experience in payroll, accounts payable, and tax returns (HST, QST).
- CPA designated or final stage of pursuing CPA designation. Experience with payroll software and accounting systems; proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills preferred.
- Experience with Quick Books or NetSuite is an asset.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities effectively. Be a self-starter to initiate and coordinate projects.
- Strong time management, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with accounting system implementation is an asset.
