Objective:

To provide overall financial leadership of the OFIFC to preserve organizational assets and reporting accurate financial results.

  • Sound financial management strategies and practices that are aligned with OFIFC’s long-range strategic plan (LRSP);
  • Operational efficiency through effective implementation, maintenance and use of financial systems and software;
  • Financial analytics to inform decision making across the organization; and
  • Compliance of accounting activities and internal audits with financial regulations.

Education/Work Experience:

  • Completed Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, and/or equivalent professional experience
  • CPA Designation
  • Experience at a Senior Management level
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with corporate governance in a not-for-profit, preferably within an Indigenous organization

 

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning and Analysis (40%):

  • Develops and leads the execution of multi-year financial plans and strategies that advance OFIFC’s LRSP priorities and intended impact;
  • Develops and leads the continuous improvement of timely and accurate budgets, financial projections and operating forecasts;
  • Consolidates periodic forecasts and perform analysis on drivers of historical and forward-looking performance for ongoing use by senior management;
  • Builds out the analysis and reporting capability of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), especially relating to metrics such as full costing, revenue reliability, operating reserve, and program efficiency;
  • Monitors KPIs and identify the cause of any unexpected variances;
  • Prepares presentations in support of monthly senior leadership meetings, board meetings, and various strategic committees;
  • Reviews and manages internal financial systems, controls, processes, and procedures to ensure the integrity, accuracy, compliance, and usefulness of financial information and reporting;
  • Assesses financial strategy and performance as it relates to managing against the annual budget and OFIFC’s LRSP;

 

Organizational Leadership (20%):

  • Provides financial analysis and decision-making support;
  • Leads the evaluation and development of cost-effective and efficient systems, processes and contract relationships to maximize return on investment;
  • Manages investment portfolio, cash management and financial policies;
  • Oversees successful completion of annual audit, tax filing and other mandated corporate reporting;
  • Leads day-to-day finance and accounting operations including capital assets management, reconciliations and reporting;
  • Participates in Board and Finance Committee meetings;
  • Participates in the design and delivery of finance-related trainings, as required;
  • Conducts support visits and supports Friendship Centres / Delivery Sites as required;

 

Legal Affairs and Contract Management (20%):

  • Coordinates matters with legal counsel, including contracts, intellectual property, grant agreements, and other matters as appropriate;
  • Maintains the integrity and compliance of corporate governance policies and related documents;
  • Creates and sustains productive vendor, banking and contractual relationships and serves as primary liaison with related third parties;
  • Evaluates and mitigates risks;

 

Team Management (20%):

  • Lead and manage a team, providing direction, guidance, and support, setting clear performance expectations and giving regular constructive feedback. 
  • Identify training needs and opportunities for professional development. 
  • Participate in the recruitment process, including interviewing and selecting candidates and overseeing the onboarding process to ensure new hires are well-integrated into the team. 
  • Address and resolve conflicts or issues within the team promptly and effectively to prevent future conflicts and promote a harmonious work environment. 
  • Ensure team members adhere to organizational policies, procedures, and regulations.
