The Opportunity
As the Bursar and CFO, you will be the financial backbone of Nunavut Arctic College, leading all financial operations with precision, integrity, and a strategic mindset. This role offers an extraordinary opportunity to manage the college's financial resources while immersing yourself in the rich culture and rugged beauty of the Arctic. You will be responsible for overseeing accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management, ensuring the college remains financially sound while supporting its mission of educational excellence. In this role, you will work closely with both local and decentralized positions, navigating the unique financial landscape of the college, which includes base funding from the Government of Nunavut and various third-party funding sources, each with distinct reporting requirements.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for a highly skilled, adventurous, and culturally aware financial leader who thrives in unique environments. The ideal candidate will:
· Hold a professional financial designation (e.g., Chartered Accountant, Certified General Accountant).
· Have at least 5 years of senior-level experience managing post-secondary programs or leading a culturally diverse, complex organization, preferably in the public sector.
· Possess a strong background in budget management, strategic planning, and collaborative leadership.
· Demonstrate a deep understanding of cultural diversity, especially the needs of special populations, with strong communication skills.
· Be proficient in drafting complex business proposals, with knowledge of Inuit language, culture, and government policies considered valuable assets.
· Ability to explain financial responsibilities to communities such as NAC Senior Management and the Board of Governors.
