Cygnet Aviation Academy LP is a professional flight training operation based in Kingston, Ontario. Cygnet’s mission is to provide safe, state-of-the-art flight training preparing First Officer ready candidates for Canadian airlines. Cygnet partners with CAE to deliver flight training utilizing a fleet of Diamond Aircraft supported by advanced flight simulation training. Working with CAE and Canadian airlines provides Cygnet with direct input on industry best practices and evolving technology to ensure graduates are prepared for direct entry positions.
About the Controller position
Reporting to the President, the Controller is a key senior leader at Cygnet responsible for financial administrative functions including reporting, planning, and internal controls in accordance with IFRS, regulatory requirements, and corporate policies. Additionally, the position monitors and advises on company spending. Reporting to the Controller is a finance manager.
Cygnet is a subsidiary of Chorus Aviation Inc., a publicly traded company. The Controller will work closely with the Chorus Corporate Reporting Team related to public company reporting requirements.
Launched in May 2023, Cygnet is a new and growing company, providing opportunity for role growth into adjacent areas of administration.
Location:
Kingston, Ontario. Cygnet offers a hybrid work environment allowing for up to 3 remote workdays per week.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the preparation of the monthly and quarterly financial statements including audit working papers and variance analysis
- Responsible to analyze all contracts and lease agreements and to facilitate accounting and disclosure requirements
- Responsible for treasury, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions; Prepare for and respond to internal and external audit queries
- Coordinate the preparation of the annual budget and long-range planning
- Advise on the forecasted costs of projects prior to financial commitment
- Manage revenue accounting related to student fees; Prepare and complete monthly GST filings to CRA
- Monthly journal entries and Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable; Support Authorization for Commitment preparation and track capital spend and Provide advice on accounting treatment and support for ad-hoc financial requests and finance projects as needed
Your Requirements:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Completion of a University degree in a business or related discipline, or equivalent
- Minimum of 4 years' experience related to financial planning, reporting and financial analysis including: management of full budget and forecast cycles; the development of financial reporting
- Experience or knowledge of international finance reporting standards (IFRS) an asset
- High proficiency in Excel including pivots, complex formulas, etc.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and a desire to learn and grow professionally
- The ability to work independently, multitask, and deliver timely results with high quality
- Aptitude for automating and streamlining financial processes and procedures
- Previous work experience in other areas of administration would be an asset
