Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA)
Director of Corporate Strategy
The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) operates Toronto Pearson International Airport—the largest airport in Canada, among the top five gateways into the United States, and one of the world's most internationally connected airports. Recognized by the Airports Council International (ACI) as the “Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers” for the sixth time, GTAA is poised to accelerate its transformative journey. At this vital juncture in Pearson’s evolution—and at the inception of an exciting and massive infrastructure program that will be revered by the industry—the organization is steadfastly committed to the provision of an exceptional passenger experience, continuing to be a central artery for global travel, and manifesting the ‘airport of the future.’ Leveraging Toronto's status as one of the fastest-growing cities in North America and the world's most multicultural centre, GTAA will continue to harness this status and diversity to further position Pearson as the premier gateway for travelers worldwide.
This is an exciting time for GTAA, a time marked by innovation, expansion, and growth. Namely, its Pearson LIFT Program—a multi-billion-dollar investment consisting of three major programs, all designed to address immediate passenger growth demands while readying Pearson for the future of air travel—is energizing the GTAA community around a shared vision and a groundbreaking chapter of legacy-building. In light of this, GTAA is seeking applications for the position of Director of Corporate Strategy—a position that will play a central role in driving forward its many aspirations and visionary projects.
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Corporate Strategy is responsible for developing and facilitating the execution of the corporation’s strategy and its 10-Year Strategic Plan. This role involves setting priorities and allocating resources to deliver the plan, while influencing corporate practices, management approaches, tools, organizational structure, and culture amidst record passenger growth levels. The Director supports the CEO on corporate-wide efforts, including setting annual performance objectives and targets, and serves as a strategic advisor to the Executive Team, providing analysis, data, benchmarking, insights, and options to drive high-value strategic outcomes and ensure the GTAA’s competitive advantage and profitability. Primary responsibilities include developing the strategic plan/framework, advising the CEO and Executive Team, facilitating the annual Business Plan and overseeing strategic business initiatives, identifying risks to the strategy, engaging with external business and industry experts, and managing stakeholder communications and project timelines. Additionally, the Director provides guidance on change management and works collaboratively across business units to ensure alignment with strategy, goals, and corporate objectives.
Qualifications
Among the qualifications being sought in candidates, the incoming Director must have a deep and abiding commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its forms and must believe, intrinsically, in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can later be synthesized and turned into possibility. While all candidates are encouraged to apply and, in so doing, share how they see themselves adding value to the GTAA environment, the following credentials and/or experiences are seen as possible markers of the candidates most likely to realize success in the role: A) a Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, strategy, analytics, or a related field, with an MBA or Accounting/Financial designation seen as an asset; B) several years of relevant experience in business or corporate development, partnership development, management consulting, strategy, or in a similar field; C) several years of experience leading corporate strategy and corporate strategy teams, as well as a proven track record of maximizing team performance, driving productivity, and achieving exceptional results enterprise-wide; D) strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, robust financial analysis capabilities, and excellent written communication and presentation skills for regular facilitation at the C-suite level.
