The Controller is responsible for the overall accountability, supervision, and leadership of the Finance team, and establishing sound financial policies, procedures, and controls. The Controller will work closely with the Director of Finance and the President to implement strong strategic practices for the overall financial health of Superheat. The main work location for this position is in Sarnia, with occasional visits required to the Kincardine head office.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate financial planning and budget processes
  • Monitor and analyze monthly financial reports vs budget
  • Manage and monitor reporting including financial forecasts and banking requirements
  • Responsible for overall group consolidated statement preparation
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and provincial regulators and legislation
  • Oversee year- end financial audits and recommend procedural improvements
  • Support President on Board material preparation – in order to align with strategic opportunities
  • Support financial management for expansion operations.
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are implemented
  • Establish departmental goals in conjunction with the Director of Finance
  • Oversee the regional management annual budgets and targets.
  • Supervise, lead and mentor Finance department team members
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in a senior-level Finance or accounting role
  • Post-secondary education in the Finance field
  • Accounting Designation preferred, or relevant experience
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule around various deadlines

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • ERP experience – ideally Microsoft D365
  • Strong leadership and motivating capabilities
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Understanding of US and Canadian GAAP, legislation, and taxation
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections
  • Strong accounting and business acumen
