Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) is a state-of-the-art regional hospital with a proud local history extending back over a century. WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Controller, in close collaboration with the Manager of Finance, are the chief accountants within the organization. The Controller is responsible for ensuring that both the Hospital’s internal and external financial reporting is accurate and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Management Information Systems (MIS). The incumbent is responsible for financial reporting, financial statement disclosure and the financial audit for the consolidated entity. The Controller is also responsible for compliance with tax regulations and the filing of the tax returns. Responsible for developing and maintaining internal and external financial reporting, policies and practices, resolving accounting and reporting issues, cash management and developing and maintaining strong internal controls and financial controls that apply to and protects the institutional reputation and assets. The Controller is responsible for identifying financial risk and for mitigating and monitoring financial risk in the institution.
As a member of the Finance team, the Controller provides strategic direction and maintains responsive, quality financial and accounting functions and leads the payroll, accounts receivable and general ledger teams. The Controller has an in-depth understanding and knowledge in finance as well as broader industry and economic knowledge. A proactive approach to continuously improve and address financial issues and opportunities for a dynamic health care facility is required. The Controller is a strategic thinker with ability to see beyond the numbers, with an innovative style and demonstrated solid business judgment.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Professional Accounting Designation required (Chartered Professional Accountant, Chartered Accountant preferred)
- Degree in Finance or equivalent
- Five to ten years of previous finance and/or accounting leadership experience (experience in a hospital setting or similar health care organization an asset)
- Experience in managing an accounting department
- Well-rounded business and finance background to compliment a strong financial/accounting technical background
- Extensive knowledge of financial reporting, GAAP and PSAS
- Knowledge of hospital operations, OHRS and hospital funding formula and reporting requirements
- Expertise in reporting, control, analysis, systems, planning with a commitment to constantly improving services
- Strong computer working knowledge, particularly of MS Office applications and knowledge of CloudSuite Financials would be an asset
