The Avon Maitland District School Board is inviting applications for the permanent, non-union position of Finance Manager at the Education Centre in Seaforth, Ontario.

The Avon Maitland District School Board is a full service, public, English school district in southwestern Ontario, bordering Lake Huron and covering the counties of Huron and Perth. Nestled in the heart of Southwest Ontario, Huron and Perth Counties are a study in contrasts. Lush, rural farmland and backcountry roads intersect with historic architecture, arts, culture, and the newest culinary trends.

In the geographical center of this thriving region is Avon Maitland’s Education Centre in Seaforth. The Board’s Administrative Offices are located here, and they contain the central support for 31 elementary and 8 secondary schools, approximately 1600 teachers and 900 support staff.  Additional information regarding the Board is available on the Board’s website at https://www.amdsb.ca/

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the Accounts Payable function while also supporting the Board’s capital reporting process and accounting systems.  As a member of the Financial Services leadership team, the successful candidate will also assist in the development of business plans, workflow modernization and training initiatives ensuring the integrity of our accounting processes and ensuring accurate financial reporting.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of the accounting system to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Supervise the accounts payable team ensuring timely and accurate payment processing.
  • Assist in the completion of the Board’s financial reporting requirements including the preparation of annual financial statements and other internal and external reports, in compliance with PSAB and applicable Ministry Guidelines.
  • Manage the capital reporting cycle ensuring adherence to PSAB standards and guidelines.
  • Assist the Sr Finance Manager in the compilation of the Board’s budget and revised budget including costing, scenario building, and Ministry report entry.
  • Draft and implement regular updates to Board Administrative procedures related to and impact by the duties listed above.
  • Liaise with external governing bodies, internal and external auditors where applicable.
  • Participate in needs analysis related to new Ministry and Board initiatives, including assistance in the selection and/or design of internal tracking systems, and the coordination of activities related to system implementation as required.
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Financial Services team ensuring departmental and organizational objectives are met.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Professional Accounting Designation (i.e. CPA) University Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Finance or Accounting School board or other public sector experience would be an asset Proven professional written and oral communication skills Initiative and motivation to ensure quality and accuracy of tasks performed Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent knowledge and understanding of PSAB The capacity to work independently, problem-solve and multi-task in a busy environment Efficient and accurate keyboarding skills Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality Demonstrated proficiency in advanced level computer applications

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (12 months per year)

Rate of Pay: $78,969 - $91,961 in accordance with the Terms and conditions of Employment for Non-Union, Management, Administrative and Supervisory Employees

  • This rate of pay is subject to change, pending the implementation of remedy payment related to Bill 124: Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act, 2019 and other related annual increase(s).

Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)

Start Date: September 1, 2024 or earliest mutually agreed upon date.

Location:  Seaforth Ontario

This position may participate in the Work from Home Program, which is a trial program implemented for the 2023-2024 school year.  The WFH program is 1-2 days working from home as determined with the supervisor and with restrictions and parameters.  This program may be extended beyond the 2023-2024 school year, at the sole discretion of our senior leadership team
