KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND OBJECTIVES:

1) Establishes annual goals and objectives for the department and ensures these are monitored and communicated to employees.

2) Quality improvement principles and methods are continuously applied to ensure customer needs and expectations are met and/or exceeded.

3) Prepares financial reports and documents in a timely and accurate manner and in a format that supports sound decision making within the organization. Financial statements are submitted within established time frames in a manner and format in keeping with sound accounting practices.

4) Oversees the financial obligations of the organization in a manner that meets and/or exceeds established standards and reflects best practice in the field.

5) Ensures ongoing financial viability of the organization and brings to the Director, Corporate Services’ attention areas of concerns in a timely manner with recommendations for viable solutions.

6) Identify potential risks and develop plans to manage and mitigate/minimize each risk.

7) Ensures that Shepherd Village Inc. meets its financial obligations to staff, funders and government bodies in a timely manner and in keeping with all relevant legislation, contracts and support agreements.

8) The implementation, evaluation, monitoring and adjustment of the finance system to meet the needs of the organization.

9) Acts as a resource to other members of the management team in matters of finance and fiscal management.

10) Recruits, hires, orients, develops, maintains, evaluates, mentors and leads the finance team.

11) Ensures that policies and procedures are in place and are applied in a manner that clearly outlines and supports accreditation, Shepherd Village standards and existing legislation.

12) Submits reports to appropriate government and legislative agencies as required in a timely and accurate manner.

13) Complies with and supports all internal and external audits.

14) All service provided within the department meet budgetary guidelines, and variations are supported with appropriate documentation and arguments.

15) Supports a team approach to leadership by cooperating and collaborating with other members of the management team.

Communication

1) Immediately inform leader of any problems that may prevent the completion of these responsibilities.

2) Fully communicate relevant position-related information generated to residents, families, clients, and managers as required, resolving problems and reducing potential misunderstandings.

3) Actively seek out necessary information to accomplish or improve job responsibilities / performance standards.

4) Recommend appropriate policies and procedures for consideration and implementation.

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

1) Participate in and carry out health and safety programs in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario and WHMIS and follow all of the Shepherd Village procedures regarding safety.

2) Keep the work area safe and clean at all times, reporting any deficiencies immediately.

3) Ensures that equipment and protective devices as required by task are used by employees in the prescribed manner (includes his/her personal use).

4) Responsible for conveying policies and procedures to employees to familiarize them with Health and Safety responsibilities, safe work procedures, effective application and compliance.

5) Ensures that supervisors are competent within the meaning of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Ongoing Education

1) Maintain and improve knowledge of subject matter pertaining to your role and responsibilities and suggest new methods to management that could provide for more effective operations.

2) Maintain familiarity with relevant legislation and regulations affecting Nursing Homes, Retirement Accommodations and independent living.

3) Attend approved training seminars and conferences including in-services related to the performance of work responsibilities.
