Position Description:
Reporting to the Manager, Planning & Analysis, the Corporate Finance Lead will be the principal financial support for the corporate operating budget, forecasting & analysis functions, and facilitate the development and execution of financial initiatives and projects. This role will also represent Finance as a subject matter expert in organizationally-led initiatives to provide advice, make recommendations, and identify opportunities/risks that will affect the operations & sustainability of the organization, project, or initiative.
Collaborating with Finance leaders and team members, Decision Support and Case Costing, Program leadership, and at times Senior Leadership, this position facilitates the integration and interpretation of financial and clinical information to enable effective and efficient business planning and project implementation, financial performance planning, monitoring, forecasting and financial resource allocation.
This role will play a large part in building, operationalizing, and monitoring the annual corporate financial planning cycle functions and large financial planning initiatives. Using their extensive analysis, investigative, and correlation skills the role will work to identify key drivers of financial performance, and embed corporate assumptions and program inputs into their deliverables, while highlighting impacts, risks, and opportunities for operating plans and funding achievement. The Corporate Finance Lead must create extensive relationships with Finance Program Business Advisors, the accounting team, program leaders, and external funders to educate themselves on program operations, financial systems processes, and funding models allowing them to gather information from multiple stakeholders and environments, summarize relevant information, and organize output logistics and presentation while focusing on the "big picture".
The Corporate Finance Lead will also be a key contact and facilitator between Finance and program/project leadership; working proactively to gather complex financial & clinical data and information between multiple teams, perform financial modeling and analysis, help inform effective process and communication rollout, and aid in formulating strategic action plans for corporate & clinically led initiatives. The role will consistently engage and partner with their other Finance team members to share knowledge, project decisions, and program impacts.
A key element of this role is to educate and support the Finance Program Business Advisory team to ensure alignment, comprehension, and standardized communication and execution of corporate financial planning and analysis processes for all hospital programs. The Corporate Finance Lead is expected to independently seek out information, communicate with confidence, present their findings in a clear, concise, and impactful way, through presentations to Finance, other support teams, and leadership on a regular basis, and adjust their style and level of information based on the audience.
Job Duties:
* Collaboratively work with and assist the Manager, Planning & Analysis in developing processes and educational materials, generating assumptions & parameters, and facilitating roll-out of Corporate Financial Initiatives and Planning cycle activities (e.g. Annual Corporate Operating Budgets; Financial Corporate Analysis & Month-End Performance reviews, Forecast development & updates, Annual projections, Summary Reporting for leaders; Support for Senior Leadership & Board Committee meetings, Annual funding & resource allocation, government relations processes, and inform/support longer-term financial strategy and planning).
* Technical development, monitoring, and execution of annual budgeting process and monthly updates with Finance Program Business Advisors.
* Develop, maintain, and update corporate-level financial monthly performance analysis and forecasting; interpretation and correlations between operations and finances, flagging risks and opportunities for efficiencies and budget balancing strategies, and providing insight into monthly revenue recognition.
* Assist in developing content for regular financial performance reviews by programs, senior leadership, Board level meetings, and internal Finance team; Adapt content, context, language, and level of information based on skillset and priorities of audience.
* Proactively create connections and extensive relationships with Finance Program Business Advisors, the accounting team, program leaders, and external funders to build knowledge of major inputs & drivers of operating planning cycle activities (eg. Financial systems process, operational processes, volumes management, funding models, program priorities & strategies, external factors) to embed relevant and impactful information into reporting that will be used for government relations, future planning, efficiency planning, and leader accountability.
* Consistently engage, provide regular updates on, and build & present educational material to Finance Program Business Advisors on how Corporate Financial Initiatives and Planning cycle activities are built, the inputs & requirements, impacts & key drivers of program/corporate action plans, and key messaging to standardize process and outcomes.
* Lead financial support for corporate & clinically led initiatives that require extensive financial oversight and span multiple programs; Key contact and facilitator between the Finance Business Advisory team and program/project stakeholders.
* Proactively engage internal & external stakeholders to build knowledge of deliverables and goals of projects; gather diverse sets of information/data and perform financial modeling and analysis where required, help inform effective process and communication rollout, and advise in the development of strategic action plans; Provide recommendations on financial & business risks & opportunities, resource requests, process & internal controls, and financial impact of decision making.
* Consistent coordination with other finance team members to share comprehensive knowledge, project decisions, and related impacts on hospital programs.
* Lead/participate in the development and delivery of innovative presentations, comprehensive reports, and proposals to all levels of the organization.
Requirements:
* Completion of a professional designation program (CMA/CGA/CPA); equivalent education might be considered for otherwise strong candidates. A minimum of 5 years of related progressive experience.
* Experience with Hospital funding and reporting methodologies (Health System Funding Reform, MIS Guidelines certification) preferred.
* Strong working knowledge of Excel (e.g. Skilled at developing pivot tables), PowerPoint, Word, and Power BI. Experience with SAP would be an asset.
* Strong knowledge of accounting standards, intricate hospital financial costing, planning & resource allocation approaches; analytical, modeling, problem solving, and metric-building skills.
* Experience developing annual budgets, monitoring tools, and translation of program operating and strategic plans in comprehensive budget plans.
* Strong abilities to gather complex operational and financial information, understand correlations between operational functions and financial performance, summarize relevant data to help inform business decisions and allocation of budget resources, and present findings to clinical and non-clinical leaders.
* Understand and can develop complex analysis to enable making recommendations on key initiatives; High level of understanding and ability to present the implications of accounting treatment options or operational decisions on funding.
* A self-starter who can take initiative and manage multiple priorities with ease in a fast-paced environment.
* Sound business judgment with a strong understanding of various operational environments and a high tolerance for ambiguity.
* An independent learner with an inquisitive nature who excels & enjoys creating relationships with diverse sets of stakeholders to seek out knowledge and information, understand business objectives, develop performance metrics, and design analytical tools/reports tailored toward stakeholder needs while drawing valid conclusions.

* Exceptional and clear communication skills - verbal, written, report-writing, and presentations; able to translate financial information, simplify and adapt the presentation of information and processes based on audience.
