NervGen, a clinical stage biotech company dedicated to developing innovative treatments that enable the nervous system to repair itself following damage, whether due to injury or disease, is seeking a Senior Accountant. NervGen is a virtual company, and all staff work from home or other remote location but regularly collaborate across functional areas via video conference.

Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a leading role in the execution of all financial operations, including full cycle accounting, reporting, budgets, forecasting, client relationships, records maintenance, and developing a comprehensive set of controls to ensure accuracy and data integrity.

The ideal candidate is independently motivated and highly experienced individual, with strong work ethic, hands-on approach, capable of adapting to a rapidly changing environment and possessing open, effective, and proactive communication skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for month end, quarter end and year end close process including related journal entries, account reconciliations and working papers.
  • Manage Accounts Payable function and prepare biweekly payment proposals.
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, cash flows and associated notes.
  • Prepare and review GST/HST and Corporate tax returns, as well as Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax incentive schedules.
  • Continuously analyze current automation of the accounting and reporting process and present improvement suggestions.
  • Ownership of ad-hoc projects and analysis to support business decision making and mitigate risks. 


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance.
  • CPA or in final stages of designation.
  • 3+ years of overall general accounting experience in a publicly listed company.

Skills and Abilities: 

  • Detail oriented, organized and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical agility.
  • Self-motivated, results driven and prefers to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • US reporting and security experience highly preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of IFRS.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks.
