We are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual with experience in public accounting to join our team as an Accounting and Assurance Manager.  The candidate should have at least five years’ experience in public accounting and be excited to lead, coach and train staff.   

 

The Opportunity:

  • Review audits, reviews and compilations and provide direction and feedback for completion before final submission to the Partners
  • Oversee and manage client audits including scheduling, planning, file review, budget preparation and allocation of time charged
  • Working closely with clients including attending client and audit meetings, preparation of management letters and related correspondence
  • Deliver financial statements and working paper files in accordance with firm standards in a timely, effective manner
  • Develop business and manage a client base
  • Keep Partners informed, on an ongoing basis, of progress and significant issues
  • Review personal and corporate tax returns and provide direction and feedback for completion before final submission to Partners
  • Work independently on more difficult corporate and tax matters, when necessary
  • Mentor staff by providing engagement feedback and participate in the employee review process during the year as well as annually
  • Deliver internal training to all staff
  • Involvement in creation of firm best practices as well as implementation
  • Manage team workload requirements and provide assistance in reviewing and evaluating staff members
  • Effectively communicate with our clients and with our Partners and staff
  • Attend Partner Meetings as needed
  • Review engagement files in accordance with firm standards for a variety of clients of businesses and non-profit enterprises
  • Prepare difficult corporate and personal income tax returns
  • Demonstrate strong technical knowledge and have the ability to research issues, present alternatives and provide conclusions
  • Continuous communication with Partners with respect to engagement progress – risks, issues, variances from plan in terms of time, budget, etc.
  • Manage interpersonal relations and build the morale of the team
  • Develop the knowledge of staff members by sharing best practices and providing coaching and training
  • Liaise with clients to discuss issues, clarify details and obtain information
  • Meet with clients to review files as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Key Requirements:

  • CPA Designation
  • 5+ years public accounting experience including auditing and the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns
  • Advanced understanding of accounting policies and audit techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional leadership and coaching/mentoring abilities
  • Adaptable to multiple demands of the position
  • Ability to prioritize workload and the flexibility to manage multiple tasks
  • Actively participating in a charitable, civic or professional club/committee
  • Dedication and strong work ethic
  • Strong team player
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Desire to move to Partnership an asset
  • Advanced computer skills in CaseWare/CaseView, Excel, Word and iFirm
  • Proficiency with MS Office and previous experience with QuickBooks and Simply Accounting
