The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Finance/Deputy Treasurer, financial activities of the assigned portfolio including: journal entries, account reconcilation, financial controls and quality assurance activities, collection and input of financial information, preparation of financial reports, supporting the prepartion of annual operating and capital budgets and business planning, performing financial analysis and forecasting, as well as preparing and reviewing of Monthly and Tri-annual financial variance and forecast reports with decision makers of assigned portfolio. 

As the Financial Analyst, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to: 

  • Financial planning support for budget target setting, deliver training and ongoing assistance to Departments allowing them to successfully deliver a robust and transparent budget to Council, coordination of the formal Budget Document, review of proposed changes in service level including providing input and financial analysis.
  • Participates in the preparation, development and coordination of the annual operating, and business plan
  • Ongoing financial analysis and support role to Departments by monthly review of operating  transactions and variance to budget, regular meetings with Departments to discuss variances, review and consolidation of Departmental feedback on variances for quarterly/triannual reporting, proactive advisement to Departments of anything unusual when performing analysis, seeking Departmental input and assistance, financial representative for any grant programs including submissions, reporting, and payment requirements. assistance with general ledger account use, budget availability, procurement review, Council report financial implications development and review, sharing financial knowledge and guidance to resolve any issues.
  • Analyzes monthly budget variance reports and corrects coding errors to ensure the integrity of the financial information; prepares journal entries.
  • Works in collaboration with program managers to review financial activity, interpret financial data and provide recommendations on budget matters, variances, etc.
  • Prepare and file commodity Tax return.
  • Prepare and report to council on Tri-annual variance report, Forecast Report, Investment report, council renumeration report, Municipal Performance Management Practices (MPMP) report, Audited Reserve and Reserve Fund Balances report among various others according to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an experienced professional with a post-secondary degree in Accounting or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has three years of accounting, budgeting, forecasting experience.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices, data processing systems, and financial control procedures. We are seeking an individual with experience in financial variance analysis, preparing financial reports and developing spreadsheet and/or database applications. 

The successful candidate for Financial Analyst will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely and after hours (as required).

This position offers a salary range of $77,790.11 to $95,332.10 plus a competitive benefit package.
