Senior Business Analyst provides financial and statistical/utilization information, analysis and strategic problem solving to departments/programs throughout the hospital. The successful candidate will have strong accounting and analysis experience, specifically within the hospital sector of Ontario working collaboratively with a team of professionals across department areas to deliver consistent, accurate, and timely information to all internal stakeholders.


  • Perform analyses of financial and statistical data relative to budget and performance and prepare reports and analysis
  • Assist with process re-engineering, designing and implementing internal controls
  • Develop customized reports and visually impactful presentations to report on key performance indicators, trends and forecasting information
  • Using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)/Public Sector Accounting Standards and Management of Information Systems (MIS) standards/OHRS review financial reports are reviewed prior to and following external submission to ensure financial stability and confidence in operational and capital expenses
  • Conduct short term and long term financial and operations planning and modeling
  • Lead the communication to articulate complex financial issues to a broad audience and fulfill ad hoc requests made by stakeholders and providing support in interpretation and understanding of financial information
  • Regular proactive analysis of budget, utilization variances and volume/case costing results
  • Influence program leaders, including physicians determine priorities for new programs, projects and investments/revenue
  • Optimize revenue streams and enabling growth while ensuring appropriate financial management and controls
  • Support the execution of established finance goals and objectives while monitoring and evaluating the progress in achieving these plans
  • Investigate variances to facilitate the attainment of a clear understanding of business activities and developing trend analysis to support conclusions, including benchmarking analysis
  • Assist and educate Directors/Managers in understanding financial reports/concepts
  • Strategic problem solving across all hospital program areas
  • Provide financial expertise in hospital funding methodologies, changes to reporting requirements and opportunities during regular forecasting reviews to capture any potential opportunities and support teams in understanding analytical trending data
  • Create and regularly monitor a standardized scorecard and dashboard reports that effectively share information related to financial trends and the tracking of key initiatives and results
  • Develop an understanding of and be proficient in regularly providing strategically relevant analysis to support hospital’s Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors monitor financial sustainability performance
  • Understand and support the reconciliation process for timely Ministry of Health and Long Term Care reports such as HAPs, CAPs, SRI and other ad-hoc Ministry and OH submissions as required based on projects and active initiatives



  • Minimum 5 years financial / clinical analysis experience including accounting, reporting, budgeting and business case development in an Ontario hospital environment, required
  • Self-directed, action oriented and highly motivated, an adept team player
  • Knowledge and experience of Health System Funding Reform (HSFR), such as Health Based Allocation Model (HBAM), Growth & Efficient Model (GEM), Quality Based Procedures (QBP) and Patient Based Funding
  • Experience with Ministry of Health reporting and Post Construction Operating Plans (PCOP) including Capital Branch requirements and processes
  • Proven ability to interpret, summarize and communicate complex financial and statistical data to stakeholders throughout the organization
  • Experience using multiple data sources (financial, statistical, case costing, CIHI databases, Ministry data, etc) to develop and prepare complex analysis
  • Able to influence leaders across multiple departments through sound business case and other data driven evidence to support efficiency improvements
  • Well-developed analytical, problem-solving and organization skills in order to meet conflicting priorities/deadline
  • Advanced proficiency MS Office products, especially MS Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal growth and development
  • Prior experience in major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or a health care financial module (ie Meditech) and Business Intelligence software preferred
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal

  • University degree in accounting, economics, business administration or equivalent
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA) preferred
  • Masters in Business Administration (MBA) preferred
