Controller
Reporting to, and working closely with the CFO, this position assists in all aspects of the accounting and finance functions of this $30M construction firm, as well as the company’s financial processes, tax and regulatory requirements, systems and controls. The successful candidate will be action-oriented, and willing to roll up their sleeves to achieve business objectives.
This position builds strong working relationships with the senior management team, and other parties to create an environment with a high level of collaboration. The Controller ensures that the policies and processes provide support to the organization’s mandate and the effective delivery of results against strategic and business plans.
This position may become partially remote following successful completion of the initial training period.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of and support the company’s strategic and financial plans, forecasts and budgeting
- Develop and maintain tools, reports, financial analysis and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CFO and make recommendations on both strategy and operations
- Monitor cash flow status (daily and monthly) and ensure availability of funds as needed
- Monitor financing strategies and activities to foster banking and bonding relationships
- Engage positive relationship with financial partners (financial institutions, investors, auditors)
- Work closely with the whole accounting team to ensure proper application and maintenance of all accounting systems and functions, by building an effective team dynamic
- Coordinate periodic audits process, and prepare month end, quarter end and year end financial statements and analyses
- Conduct periodic reconciliation of payroll, general ledger, and bank accounts
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements (Workers Compensation and HST in different provinces, EHT, PST, and other reports required)
- Ensure compliance to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Requirements:
- CPA designation
- Completion of University degree in business or accounting
- Strong modelling skills using Jonas accounting package and ADP payroll system
- Strong technical and analytical skills with the instinctive ability to produce accurate and timely financial reporting
- 10 year’s finance experience in construction or manufacturing firm
- Experience in leading an Accounting/Finance team as well as Information Technology function
- Significant experience in construction accounting, in a multi-company environment
