As the leader of the accounting team, the Corporate Controller is responsible for managing all accounting and financial functions for our growing portfolio of companies in Canada and Florida.
Key Job Responsibilities
Financial Accounting, Reporting and Controlling
- Implement and maintain a robust financial control framework
- Prepare financial statements, annual budgets, quarterly forecasts, and financial analyses, both internally and externally, accurately, timely, and insightfully and report findings to management
- Provide financial analysis generally and for specific capital investments, pricing decision and contract negotiations
- Develop and maintain accounting practices to support the CaraCo group of companies
- Provide reliable and proactive recommendations about accounting for tax purposes
- Work effectively with external accountant partners, other financial partners, and regulatory bodies
- Act as a resource to the senior management team for corporate records, documents, and financial information
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
- Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
- Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions and enforce internal control systems and budgeting
- Participate in or lead special projects, as directed by the Senior Management Team
Cash flow Monitoring and Reporting
- Implement effective processes to forecast, track and manage all cash receipts and disbursements
- Prepare weekly cash flows for the CaraCo group of companies and prepare long range cash flows for the group (based on input from the shareholders)
- Monitor all bank accounts on an ongoing basis, and perform daily reconciliations as part of CaraCo’s fraud prevention program
People Management
- Lead the accounting team for a complex portfolio of companies in the residential and commercial property management, construction and restaurant industries
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations
- Recruit, select and develop a high-performance accounting team
- Lead, inspire and motivate the accounting team
- Plan and chair the weekly accounting meetings
- Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or associate degree, preferably in accounting
- CPA designation is required
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Advanced Excel proficiency
- Experience with Yardi Voyager
- Proficient in MS Office
- Background in construction and real estate is advantageous
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment
