About the Position

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Senior Financial Analyst assists in the management of the Ballet’s financial resources. This includes the budgeting process, financial modelling, grants, accounting, facilities and purchasing. The Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with the CFO to gather and analyse data to identify opportunities for improved internal controls and financial management on an ongoing basis. The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing comprehensive financial insights that contribute to the strategic and operational initiatives of The National Ballet of Canada. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts, analyzing financial data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Update and monitor current and forecast cash flow positions.
  • Assist in the compilation of comparative statistics and the development of industry KPIs.
  • Monitor variances between budget/forecast and actual and follow up with business managers on discrepancies. Liaise with department heads to ensure budget adherence and provide financial insights, providing new tools as needed.
  • Support the accounting department in month-end and year-end closure and approval processes including HST filings and account reconciliations.
  • Engage in the financial planning and analysis to optimize financial practices and processes within the organization.
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
  • Provide analysis and insights into patron behaviour with a focus on segmentation of patron profiles.
  • Track and analyze performance of direct mail, email, social media and digital campaigns for tickets sales, subscriptions, and fundraising efforts.
  • Support business processes, system enhancements initiatives and automation with focus on scalability for future growth and improving efficiency.
  • Develop expert knowledge of Tessitura with a goal of becoming an expert.
  • Analyze & document current and future state business processes and workflows.
  • Contribute to special projects, providing analytical support and data-driven recommendations.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. Successful completion of a CPA designation is preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in financial analysis, ideally within the non-profit or arts sectors.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced skills in Excel for financial modeling.
  • Experience with business improvement and internal controls improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated collaborative and consultative management style as well as an ability to foster and maintain effective relationships.
  • Experience with financial management software (Dynamics Solomon or Sage); familiarity with Tessitura is an asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information in an understandable way.
  • Excellent organizational skills, capable of working independently and as part of a team on multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in business relationships.

Working Conditions

  • Work out of main office, The Walter Carsen Centre, located at 470 Queens Quay West, Toronto
  • Hybrid work environment; minimum three (3) days a week in office and remotely from home two (2) days a week, subject to change
