Team: Two direct reports & four indirect reports

Key Relationships: Foundation Executive Team (FET), The Board of Directors (particularly the Finance & Audit

Committee), Hospital Finance Team, and Foundation Leadership

Compensation: The compensation range for this opportunity is $98,970 - $131,960, plus an annual variable

and generous holiday and summer fun Fridays (1/2 days) May 24 – Labour Day.

The Organization

Trillium Health Partners Foundation (the “Foundation”) was formed in 2013 within the amalgamation of two exceptional foundations: Trillium Health Centre Foundation and The Credit Valley Hospital Foundation. Trillium Health Partners serves the 1.5 million residents of the communities of Mississauga and west Toronto; Halton and Peel regions.

Working with Donors, the Foundation is dedicated to raising the critical funds needed to address the highest priority needs of Trillium Health Partners’ (the “Hospital”) three sites: Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga Hospital, and Queensway Health Centre and more specifically in the areas of building and revitalizing patient spaces, equipment, and technology; and research, education, and innovation. The Foundation’s mission is to inspire and partner with the community to invest in how health care is delivered in this region.

The Foundation has undertaken one of the largest comprehensive campaigns in the healthcare sector that will deliver the local share of a significant two-site hospital expansion (announced in the 2021 provincial budget); fuel research, innovation and education that will help to alleviate some of the systemic issues plaguing the healthcare system; and generate funds for all program clinical areas in support of the Hospital’s strategic priorities.

The Position

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance and Business Operations, the Director, Finance & Strategy will bring an inquisitive and deep understanding of fund accounting. They will play an active role in the day-to-day financial management of the Foundation with the overarching goal of ensuring the business can rely on the numbers.  Our successful candidate will be a unique combination of strategist and ‘doer’ and will play their part in driving efficiencies within the finance team.

The Director, Finance & Strategy will lead a team of six (two direct reports - Manager Finance & Administration and a Senior Financial Analyst) and will work with key players within the Foundation to coordinate pan organizational activities related to the financial operation of the Foundation.

Our successful candidate will ideally have experience with Finance and Fundraising software  (THPF use Blackbaud Inc’s suite of integrated products and Financial Edge) and embrace technology to help drive efficiency.

As the Foundation enters a vital stage of the campaign, the Director, Finance & Strategy will be called upon by leadership to pull and distill data. Our successful candidate will be able to present data to tell a story. They will be comfortable taking financial models and translating them into digestible content.

Trillium Health Partners Foundation is scheduled for significant growth over the coming years and the Director, Finance & Strategy will need to provide effective leadership, and think beyond today!

Primary Accountabilities

Financial Management & Leadership

  • Understands financial models, knowledge of key finance processes and controls, financial reporting, budgeting & planning, management accounting, performance management and strategic finance, risk & governance Develop and track financial performance metrics and KPIs Develop and implement financial procedures and systems, maintaining records for financial management and compliance and decision making Providing leadership to Senior Financial Analyst handling the restricted fund management and reporting Supporting full cycle accounting duties and responsibilities
  • Recruit, manage, mentor a high performance team including performance management Prepare reports to facilitate the Hospital’s financial planning Keep adequate books and records in accordance with statutory obligations and make them available to external auditors and CRA on request Using data and analytics (including competitive/market scans and SWOTs), provide insight and recommendations in defining strategies and programs to deliver on priorities and objectives Perform special financial assignments as required

Corporate Strategy

  • Lead the finance component of the annual operational planning, and actively coordinate pan-organizational activities including but not limited to, supporting the FET.  Monitoring and compliance of the operational plans. Working alongside leadership on development of presentation materials (i.e. board, staff, hospital) Monitor strategic gaps across the organization including misalignment, information management, inefficiencies, and work to correct with stakeholder engagement Support in the development and maintenance of the Foundation’s next  5-year strategy 

Campaign Management

  • Maintain a multi-year forecast for campaign and support and annual reforecasting exercise across the Foundation where assumptions are revisited and updated. 
  • Support FET’s development and maintenance of the multi-year campaign plan and goals (e.g., development of campaign pillars, development of materials for Board including Local Share commitment & resolution)
  • Campaign coordination with the Hospital and FET (e.g., central point of contact and material development for Hospital Ministry submission needs)
  • Development of and maintenance of internal educational campaign materials to support staff in understanding the Campaign and fundraising within its environment and needs

The Ideal Candidate

Our successful candidate will be an accomplished and capable Finance leader with a proven track record in strategy implementation and operational finance administration responsibilities for a not-for-profit or charitable organization with significant scale and complexity, ideally within a campaign environment.

The Director, Finance & Strategy will enjoy the duality of their role – and will not be ‘above’ doing the modeling and data input/pull themselves while assisting in the overarching strategy. 

Experience will include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/MBA with specialization in Finance and/or a financial designation considered an asset Excellent accounting and finance knowledge ideally in NFP having worked with Financial Edge, exposure to Blackbaud and fund accounting A collaborator who works with ease with senior stakeholders to inspire a "Foundation first" mindset which demonstrates that meeting collective goals is the number one priority Continuously look for ways to optimize efficiency A proven leader who can coach, empower, and promote two-way dialogue including solicitation of feedback from key stakeholders Develop strong, respectful relationships with stakeholders with clarity and alignment
  • High emotional intelligence, including self-awareness, empathy, and motivation An action-oriented people connector who sets an example through hard work and collegiality
  • A self-starter with a ‘can-do’ attitude and vision.
  • Collaborates with the senior leadership team to achieve P&L and key performance goals on time and with 100% accuracy Possesses excellent problem-solving skills – structuring/analysis/synthesis
