Job Summary:

The core functions of the Finance Manager position are:  prepare monthly financial statements, assist with management and board reporting, perform financial and variance analysis, costing, participate in the annual budgeting process and five-year plan, cash forecasting, supervise and mentor the accounting team.  Preparing the bi-weekly payroll, managing the pension, benefits, short term wellness, long term disability and the absence management program.    

Reports to: Director of Finance

Responsibilities:

  • Align departmental planning to meet key business initiatives:
  • Oversee the management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit & collections, capital asset tracking, inventory control, purchasing and general accounting functions. 
  • Actively participate in the preparation of the budget and five-year plan. 
  • Ensure effective stewardship of the company’s assets and that the necessary audit and control procedures are in place and tested to protect the physical, real and intellectual property.
  • Focus upon timely preparation of financial reports (i.e. monthly, quarterly and annual budget to actual schedules) and the accompanying analysis.
  • Act in a mentoring role to non-financial managers in order to raise the quality of the budgeting processes and continually improve the economic stewardship and performance of the company. 
  • The lead resource during the annual audit engagement. Approve ledger entries by auditing transactions.
  • Responsible for all aspects of payroll processing and related reporting.  This includes coordination with ADP of the actual pay transmission, remittance of deductions, preparation of reconciliation files with required back up and the necessary general ledger entries.
  • Administration of Bruce Telecom benefit and OMERS pension plan.
  • Manage the short-term wellness and long-term disability process and act as a liaison between employees and the providers.
  • From time to time in accordance with the needs of the company, tasks may include other duties as assigned by management.
