Financial Analyst

Permanent, full-time position

Reporting to the Comptroller, the Financial Analyst is involved in the preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on Board operations, including all four Ministry reporting cycles: Estimates, Revised Estimates, Provincial Consolidation, and Year-end / Financial Statement Reporting. The Financial Analyst works closely in supporting the school and Board administrators with budget monitoring and other financial programs and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities: As a key member of the Financial Services team, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for:

    Assisting in the preparation of salary and benefits budgets; Assisting in the preparation of school and board budget allocations; Monitoring budgets, preparing variance analysis, and reporting to budget holders; Assisting school and Board administrators with budget monitoring and support; Assisting in tracking and analyzing all program funding and providing guidance and support to program leads; Municipal tax revenue data collection, reconciliation, and reporting; School Generated funds monitoring and support, including application (School Cash) support and conducting internal audits on site; Assisting in the preparation of reports and analysis required for collective bargaining and grievance resolution; Assisting with the year-end preparation and analysis, including asset and liability account reconciliations, revenue and expenditures analysis, and year-end position forecasts and variances; Assisting with the preparation and completion of the financial year-end Ministry reporting package; Working with external auditors on the year-end Audit and Financial Statement preparation.
Qualifications and Skills:
    Successful completion of a University/post-secondary degree program in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting or Finance field; Enrolled or progressing towards Canadian Professional Accounting (CPA) designation; One to three (1 to 3) years of relevant work experience, with a sound knowledge of Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Canadian Auditing Standards; Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of applications, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook, with advanced skills in Excel spreadsheet development and design; Experience with computerized financial and database management systems; Excellent analytical skills with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting ability; Keen attention to detail; Solid organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize workload to meet strict deadlines; Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment; Excellent communication skills, both written and oral; Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information related to budget and financial planning;
Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience working in Finance with school boards or other public sector organizations Knowledge and experience with Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) accounting standards.
This position requires occasional travel within the Board’s district, therefore a valid driver’s license, insurance and access to a vehicle is required. This position also requires some flexibility in hours due to the inherent nature of the work and the demands during peak periods.
