Downtown Toronto based private equity firm (renewable energy and art auction focus) is looking for an experienced accountant or bookkeeper to assist with general accounting, financial reporting to lenders and investors, as well as the annual audit process for several entities.

A good candidate would be a CPA or equivalent with more than 5 years of experience within an accounting firm or accounting department and a strong background in general accounting and/or fund accounting and banking technologies.
JOB TITLE: Corporate Accountant
REPORTS TO: Executive Team
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Accounting
- Ensure transactions are properly captured in the accounting system for 20+ entities
- Perform bank reconciliations for all bank accounts
- Ensure financial statements are accurate;
- reconcile accounts of related parties AP function: issue payments to vendors, employees etc., track account ageing
- Liaise with the operations team on approval and payment of vendor invoices
- Prepare weekly liquidity reports for senior management Assist with lenders’ reporting, and ad-hoc financial analysis projects
- Assist with various month- and year-end activities Process investors’ payments and participate in some investors’ communication
Audit Process
- Prepare several entities for annual audits of the financial statements:
- Ensure the financial statements for each entity are accurate and all balances can be properly supported
- Ensure AP and AR balances among related parties are reconciled
- Prepare supporting documentation for the auditors: spreadsheets, schedules, etc. Binders with paper back up, as required
- Respond to auditors’ inquiries; provide additional analysis if required
Tax Filings
- Assist with corporate tax and HST filings
- Review impacts of investments on personal taxes
- Respond to CRA inquiries and other general communication
KEY QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- CPA designation (or equivalent) preferred
- A self-starter with excellent attention to detail
- At least 5 years of accounting experience (accounting firm or accounting department with exposure to the audit process)
- Full cycle accounting experience preferred
- Understanding of internet banking and automatic payment systems
- Minimum of an intermediate level of proficiency in MS Excel and Word
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software is a strong asset
- Finance / Accounting degree, diploma, or equivalent
