Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate has legal accounting experience, is confident and organized, possesses excellent communication, and takes pride in the quality of their work. We pride ourselves in providing excellent service to our clients, while being a comfortable and rewarding place to work.

As an Accounting Clerk at Mills & Mills LLP you will work alongside experienced Legal Assistants and legal practitioners, while you provide accounting support to all areas of practice. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Produce a high-volume of invoices.
  • Open, close and process write/offs, time transfers, and corrections within our accounting software: Acumin.
  • Daily banking.
  • Provide weekly and monthly lawyer reports and management reports.
  • Compile data and develop reports to aid with financial performance tracking.
  • Periodically review GL postings and address any variances or inconsistencies.
  • Cover other accounting staff during absences.
  • Assist with month and year-end financials.
  • General administrative duties, including but not limited to scanning, filing, photocopying, printing, perform administrative duties with respect to accounting, opening, and closing files, docketing, billing etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.   


Education/Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities/Attributes

  • Post-Secondary Education in Accounting or Business is preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year working in an accounting role (preferably in a legal environment)
  • Great teamwork skills and positive work attitude Understanding of trust accounting
  • Understanding of Law Society of Ontario by-laws and regulations
  • Experience with electronic banking for deposits, payments, wires, and ACH transactions.
  • Experience working with Acumin is preferred.
  • A keen understanding of accounting standards and regulations with a focus on:
    • MA – management accounting
    • FP&A – financial planning and analysis
    • PM – performance management
  • Keen eye for detail, professional attitude, confidence, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to work well under pressure, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional client management skills, trustworthy, accountable, proactive and a positive work attitude
