THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager, Financial Accounting to oversee and manager our financial accounting activities. The Manager, Financial Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of our financial information.  The successful candidate will have a strong background in financial accounting and consolidation, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven ability to drive process improvements and deliver results.

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and analyze financial statements including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements in compliance with IFRS.
    • Conduct detailed financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement, and provide insightful recommendations to senior management.
    • Develop and maintain financial reporting tools, templates, and processes to streamline and enhance financial reporting efficiency.
       
  • General Ledger Management:
    • Oversee the general ledger accounting activities, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
    • Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and other financial transactions.
    • Establish and enforce accounting policies and procedures to maintain internal controls and compliance with relevant regulations.
       
  • Financial Operations:
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Corporate Accounting, FP&A, Treasury and others to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
    • Monitor and analyze key financial metrics to support effective decision-making.
    • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and optimization of financial processes.
       
  • External Audit and Compliance:
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage the audit process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Prepare and provide required financial information and documentation for external reporting purposes.
    • Stay updated with changes in accounting standards, regulations, and best practices and ensure adherence to relevant guidelines.
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on technical accounting matters, drafting position papers and relevant note disclosures.
       
  • Team Management and Leadership:
    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of financial accountants, providing guidance, feedback, and training to enhance their skills and performance.
    • Set performance goals, conduct performance evaluations, and facilitate professional growth opportunities for team members.
    • Foster a collaborative and positive work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication and continuous improvement.


WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven experience (7+ years) in financial accounting, preferably in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
  • CPA designation or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS accounting standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (financial reporting, accounting, and consolidation).
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, with a focus on meeting deadlines.
  • Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to motivate and develop a team.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey financial information to diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience working with standard accounting systems (ERP).

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience working with Quickbooks and Sage accounting system.
  • Experience working with Caseware.
  • Industry experience in benefits administration, insurance or a related field.
