Job Position:  Finance Manager - Full-time or part-time, minimum 4 days per week

Compensation: $70K to $90K per annum, plus 10% bonus (pro-rated for part-time)

CMIC is a small organization with a large footprint. Its members comprise some of the largest mining companies operating worldwide, and other organizations that support the mining industry. CMIC arranges and coordinates projects with its members and partners, intended to innovate and commercialize opportunities for improvement in the mining industry. 

 

CMIC seeks a Finance Manager possessing strong financial and administrative skills to perform all finance and administrative activities of the organization. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Finance Manager will be responsible for both oversight and performance of financial and administrative activities relating to the delivery of CMIC’s programs and projects. 

 

The Finance Manager must be prepared to assume a hands-on role, with duties encompassing financial and project reporting, liaison with the board, key stakeholders and suppliers, together with routine payroll, invoicing and accounts payable processing (Note: Transaction volumes are small although often complex due to size and currency).

 

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, results-oriented, with strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and within a small team of a growing organization. This is an excellent opportunity for a recently qualified CPA seeking to learn and grow, or a seasoned professional looking for an opportunity to oversee the implementation of innovative financial practices and systems in a growing organization. 

 

Core responsibilities

 

  • Perform all activities relating to financial reporting, project management, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, purchasing, invoicing, banking, and office administration 
  • Support the Executive Director as required to manage CMIC’s financial activities.
  • Support project managers with timely and accurate financial information relevant to their projects
  • Manage significant levels of project funding in multiple currencies and jurisdictions
  • Administer relationships and activities with members, key suppliers, banks, accountants, CRA and suppliers
  • Assist with and perform presentations to the CMIC Board and committees

 

Qualifications, work experience, and skills

 

Required

 

  • Accounting designation, diploma, or certificate
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and reporting requirements for non-profits with emphasis on deferred revenue accounting
  • Hands-on experience with ERP accounting systems, preferably QuickBooks Online
  • Hands-on experience performing accounting and administrative activities for small or medium-sized profit or non-profit organizations
  • Hands-on experience preparing financial statements, budgets, and other financial reports
  • Hands-on experience in invoicing, banking, and payroll functions for small or medium-sized organizations
  • Hands-on experience with project accounting and reporting
  • Hands-on experience with multiple currencies and related hedging opportunities  
  • High level of proficiency with MS Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and virtual meeting software
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written English
  • Organized and attentive to accuracy and detail
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self -motivated and results oriented, willing to take initiative and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, able to nurture trusting, open, relationships that encourage learning and participation.

Desirable

  • Experience working in the mining or resource-extraction industry 
  • Driver’s licence, access to a car is an asset

Mandatory work requirements

  • Part-time or full-time (37.5 hours/week), occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Minimum 4 days per week
  • Minimal travel required 
  • Work from home in a securable, private office with access to the internet
  • Successful completion of criminal record check
  • Willing to comply with health and safety regulations as may be implemented (e.g., COVID)
