The Government of Nunavut is seeking a Deputy Minister of Finance who will serve as the primary advisor to the Government of Nunavut on financial and budgetary matters; and undertake priority actions and initiatives to enable and support the achievement of the government’s mandate, Katujjiluta – a guiding principle that emphasizes a fundamental shift in how we work together to achieve the promise of Nunavut.
Katujjiluta represents the following set of actions and initiatives:
· Aging with dignity in Nunavut
· Expanding the housing continuum,
· Enabling health and healing,
· Reinvesting in education
· Diversifying local economies.
Main Priorities
The main priorities of the Deputy Minister of Finance include:
· Provide broad support for Katujjiluta through financial review, analysis, and budget recommendations.
· Provide clear direction to Deputy Heads regarding financial matters and expectations for collaboration and partnerships within and beyond the Government of Nunavut.
· Work closely with Community and Government Services (CGS), Economic Development and Transportation (EDT), and Human Resources (HR) in the development of a workplan and timeline for the realignment of EDT and CGS.
· Collaborate with the Nunavut Housing Corporation and HR to identify opportunities that improve housing-related employee benefits to enable and encourage the relocation of employees from Government staff housing into affordable rental units or private homes.
· Oversee the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Licensing Board and the Nunavut Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
· Serve as Secretary of the Financial Management Board.
· Serve as Member of the Cabinet Committee on Expanding Housing and Infrastructure and the Cabinet Committee on Priorities, Planning and Partnerships.
· Implement strategic efforts to increase Inuit employment, including identifying opportunities for Inuit internships and other career development programs.
· Prioritize vacant positions for staffing, address long-term casual employees, and support Inuit employment goals and targets.
