Humber College is actively seeking diverse leaders to serve on their Board of Governors.

In addition to its academic excellence, Humber College is a leader in providing a learning, working and living environment that through our staff, structures and values, embeds equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) into its’ programs and services.  Each department and Faculty are actively implementing the Indigenous Education Plan (IEP) to achieve institutional commitments to Indigenous Education and Engagement as a means of guiding ongoing and future development of programs and services in support of Indigenous learners, families, and communities.


The Opportunity
The Board of Governors is the highest governing body at Humber College, overseeing the College’s activities, finances and property. The Board of Governors is committed to enlightened, consistent leadership on behalf of Humber College’s students, staff, industry partners and the communities it serves. All members of the Board have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the College as a whole and to represent the public interest in the governance of the College.
Governors are expected to:
•    Attend all scheduled meetings. Meetings of the Board will be held at least four (4) times per year and will be scheduled as may be required to ensure that the Board fulfills its role.
•    The Board shall manage or supervise the management of the activities and affairs of the College and exercise all powers and do all such acts and things as the Board is authorized to exercise and do pursuant to the ONCA and the OCAATA. 
•    Act in the best interests of the College in line with a Governor’s fiduciary duty.


The Ideal Candidate Profile
As an ideal candidate for a Governor role with Humber College Board of Governors, you have an affiliation or familiarity with Humber College and a keen interest in supporting the growth and development of the College. Governors will be experienced leaders from various occupational and professional sectors with a combination of entrepreneurial skills and key competencies essential to providing leadership, sound decision-making and oversight to the College. 

Experience and Qualifications:
•    Experience in serving on a volunteer Board;
•    Experience having served or advised a CEO/President;
•    Familiarity with the GTA and, ideally, involvement in the GTA community;
•    Knowledge of best practices in board governance;
•    Ideally, some understanding of governance in an academic or broader public sector environment;
•   Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Risk Management, Legal/Regulatory, Enterprise Leadership, and Infrastructure Development/Real Estate preferred; and
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following: Advancement/Fundraising, IT, Marketing and Communications, Community Leadership, Governance, Government/Public Sector, Human Resources and Performance/Quality Management, Financial and Accounting, Stakeholder Relations, Sustainability/Social Responsibility, and Strategic Planning considered an asset.

 

Humber College is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Alders” in Michi Saagiig language, the region is uniquely situated along the Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all.
