POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Financial Services is responsible for the coordination, preparation and completion of required Ministry of Education financial reporting, internal and adhoc financial reporting, providing financial support and expertise to Board departments, schools, school councils and the Thames Valley Education Foundation.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Ensuring the accurate and timely completion of the Ministry of Education financial requirements, statutory reporting requirements and other Ministry reporting requirements
•Preparation of internal and external financial reports
•Provide financial support and expertise to departments, schools and the Thames Valley Education Foundation
•Supervision of the day-to-day activities of the Financial Services team
•Administration of other corporate financial functions including the ongoing maintenance of the Board’s general ledger, corporate credit card program and ongoing tracking of tangible capital assets


WORK PERFORMED:
•Supervise finance staff including delegation of responsibilities, managing performance and conduct issues, setting goals, completing performance appraisals, and fostering a cohesive, team oriented environment
•Provide customer service and support to schools and Board departments
•Utilize expertise to assist budget holders in assessing potential risks and implications of business decisions
•Plan and coordinate annual reporting requirements
•Liaise with external stakeholders e.g. financial institutions, Ministry of Education, external auditors, etc.
•Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, Board policies and procedures and Ministry regulations related to financial reporting and disclosure


QUALITIES/SKILLS/SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE:
•In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, Public Sector Accounting Standards, and all relevant legislation
•In-depth knowledge of accounting and general business management
•Strong leadership, mentoring, coaching, facilitation, presentation, report writing and customer service skills
•Proficient in computer applications such as MS Office Suite, financial systems and work-related software etc.
•Excellent interpersonal skills with effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
•Ability to understand government legislation, regulations, and communications, including the Ministry of Education Technical Papers
•Ability to plan and coordinate to meet organizational needs and timelines
•Ability to evaluate and recognize the implications of potential issues
•Ability to work both independently and part of a team
•Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
•Continuous improvement mindset

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Completion of a four (4) year Degree in Accounting or Business Administration and a professional accounting designation or equivalent
•Five (5) years of related work experience is required

 


First consideration will be given to permanent members of The Association of Administrative, Professional and Support Personnel (AAPSP).
