Bring Your CPA and Forensic Accounting Expertise
To Our Investigations Department
CPA Ontario is currently in search of an Investigator who will be responsible for carrying out investigations required by the Professional Conduct Committee (“PCC”) and appointed by Counsel of the PCC. In this role, you will be appointed to lead investigations or co-appointed to work with a Senior Investigator. You will also participate in Investigations and Prosecutions team projects as well as Standards Enforcement Group initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Executing and taking the lead or co-lead role pertaining to investigations of complaints against members of the profession which will include reviewing materials and developing investigative plans and budgets, conducting interviews with witnesses and member, gathering, and managing evidence in a forensic context, and preparing reports and related evidentiary document briefs that will be relied upon by the PCC in carrying out the Committee’s mandate.
Working in tandem with Senior Investigators and/or subject matter experts on larger/more complex investigations or specialized matters in a mentee/non-leading role with the goal of developing skill sets and obtaining experience.
Providing assistance to Counsel in drafting charges and preparing for hearings.
Appearing before the PCC to speak to the investigation report and answer the PCC’s queries, as required.
Appearing as a witness before the Discipline Committee.
Supervising, mentoring, and delegating work to the Coordinator and Investigation Specialists.
Contributing to the continued update of training materials, participating in internal meetings geared towards strategy and planning as well as working on various projects.
Participating in Investigator Training and PCC Orientation Training sessions.
Who You Are:
A CPA member in good standing with, at minimum, successful completion of at least one of: the Master of Forensic Accounting (MFAcc), DIFA (Diploma in Investigative & Forensic Accounting Program), the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) or CFF (Certified in Financial Forensics) designations.
A Forensic Accountant with an understanding of, and professional experience in, public accounting with a strong working knowledge of the CPA Code of Professional Conduct and a minimum 5 years of experience in executing investigative files independently from the planning stage through to completion of a report, conducting interviews, preparing investigative reports, and providing expert testimony in a legal environment.
A strong communicator (verbally and written) with excellent interpersonal, presentation, relationship building, and negotiating skills.
A demonstrated critical thinker and problem-solver with proven professional judgment and the ability to carry out investigative responsibilities with professionalism and due care.
Extremely organized with a proven ability to plan and multi-task, in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
Digitally fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and e-discovery software tools.
