KidsAbility Centre for Child Development (“KidsAbility”) supports over 17000 children and youth to reach their communication, social, physical, and behavioural goals each year. Established in 1957 and located in the growing and diverse Region of Waterloo and Wellington County, KidsAbility is a highly respected, complex, ever-changing, not-for-profit organization that provides the full spectrum of rehabilitation services children and youth with special needs and their families. Passionate about providing exceptional family-centred services, KidsAbility supports children and youth from birth to age 21 and their families to achieve their potential goals and to navigate the entire journey from childhood to adulthood, whether they have a diagnosis or not. Funded through the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services, purchase-service options, and the generous support of the community, KidsAbility’s goal is to get the right help to support children at the right time.
This is an exciting time for KidsAbility – the Board recently announced the appointment of Jennifer Foster as the organization`s new Chief Executive Officer, effective January 3, 2024. To help facilitate her vision for the organization, Jennifer is actively recruiting a Director, Communications and Vice President, Finance to round out her incredible leadership team. Additionally, KidsAbility will be embarking on the creation of the organization's next strategic plan, with a focus on research and innovation.
Vice President, Finance
The Vice President, Finance is an inspiring leader who provides strategic, operational, and thought leadership to support KidsAbility’s Mission, Vision, and strategic priorities so clients, families, staff, and volunteers can reach their full potential.
KidsAbility is looking for a seasoned Vice President of Finance who will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies, overseeing financial operations, and providing financial analysis and guidance to the executive team. Reporting to the CEO, this is a high-impact and strategic role focused on fostering collaborative, transparent, and effective business partnerships across the organization.
As an experienced finance partner with both private and public sector experience, you will be responsible for business planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, financial modeling, and strategic decision support. In this role, you will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, CEO, Board Members, and Finance Committee while leading the Finance team to drive results and oversight of Facilities for our four sites.
The Vice President of Finance represents KidsAbility with community and provincial partners, oversees the proper development and implementation of program budgets and business plans for their area, and oversees the organizational budget. They are responsible for all compliance reporting, the risk registry as well as business continuity and response for Finance and Facilities. The Vice President of Finance demonstrates accountability by providing innovative leadership in the areas of financial planning, risk management and financial performance.
Career Experience & Core Competencies
The successful candidate will have a professional finance designation (e.g. CPA) in accounting, business, finance or equivalent with significant experience in operating, managing and delivering results in a similar environment. They will have the ability to think strategically, innovatively and creatively using sound business judgement and analytical skills. Strong team building and written, and verbal communication skills are essential. Experience in health care is an asset.
The Vice President, Finance will be based in the KidsAbility head office located in Waterloo with travel to various KidsAbility sites in Kitchener, Cambridge, Guelph, Fergus and Palmerston. KidsAbility would like to have leadership presence at all sites, therefore the Vice President will have the flexibility to work between the various sites.
