Accounting Manager – Full Time Position
Organization Background:
Belmont House (located near Bay/Bloor) is a charitable, non-profit, Christian home for seniors offering long term care and retirement living. For more than 170 years we have provided quality care to our residents in a safe and stimulating home environment. We are the "Seniors' Home of Choice" helping our residents maintain independence, choice, dignity and privacy. Due to our continuous growth, Belmont House is seeking an Accounting Manager.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Director of Finance and Information Management (DFIM), the Accounting Manager is responsible for the supervision and control of the general accounting functions. This includes the general ledger, payables, payroll, property, budget reporting, financial statements and statistical accumulation.
Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Degree
- CPA designation or near completion
- Payroll experience, preferably in a unionized environment
- Previous supervisory experience and/or training is required
- Experience with Sage 300/Accpac or similar accounting software
- Previous experience using ADP Workforce Now payroll software or similar
- Strong knowledge of Excel and above average proficiency in other MS Office Applications (Word, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Major Responsibilities:

- Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the operations of the accounting department in collaboration with the DFIM
- Reviews entries to the general and statistical ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures. Prepares general and statistical ledger entries.
- Coordinates and prepares the draft financial statements, variance analysis and financial management reports
- Works with the DFIM to complete the financial planning and budget process
- Assists managers in the preparation of department budgets
- Coordinates and prepares for financial audits as required by Belmont House policy, governmental regulations, or other organizations
- Prepares GST/HST returns
- Processes and posts journal entries to bank and trust accounts, investments, prepaids, balance sheet accounts and accrued expenses on a monthly basis
- Reviews journal entries and reconciliations prepared by direct reports
- Reviews resident/tenant billing and statements for accuracy
- Evaluates financial policies and procedures and recommends changes as necessary
- Monitors established internal controls to assure proper compliance
- Provides accounting and reporting support for construction and other capital projects
- Provides planning, implementation and monitoring support for various accounting related projects
- Recruits, supervises, evaluates and trains employees in accounting, payroll, and accounts payable
- Ensures Finance staff are providing satisfactory customer service to residents and tenants
