Reporting to the Director, Finance, the Accounting Analyst is responsible for supporting the coordination of the annual budget and quarterly forecast process by ensuring that budget and forecast templates are updated for use by the Managers in compliance with timelines, uploading data into the accounting system for review by Sr. Financial Analyst and Director, Finance and gathering data for charts and graphs for inclusion in the Conservation Authority budget documents. The Accounting Analyst will also assist with the preparation of annual levy invoices, journal entries related to levy allocation and recurring monthly items, preparing reconciliation reports, and entering items in the accounting system as needed to support the other members of the Finance team.

What you will do

  • Create templates for the annual budget, budget restatement and quarterly forecast process as needed. Input data from completed budget, budget restatement and forecast templates into accounting system and ensure completeness and accuracy.  Create levy invoices, prepare levy journal entry and other journal entries as needed. Prepare charts and data for Budget Companion and Budget Book. Setup new accounts for projects or programs in the accounting system when needed.
  • Prepare and maintain excel spreadsheets to support budget and forecasting processes.
  • Process recurring month end journal entries for insurance, prepaid recognitions, and audit accruals.  Prepare other journal entries as needed. Enter accounts receivable and payable postings in accounting system as needed to support team. Prepare and maintain excel spreadsheets for quarterly automated payments and direct bank withdrawals to be reviewed by Finance Director. Prepare reconciliations of general ledger and sub ledgers. Update internal Finance forms with new projects, general ledger codes, removal of old codes as needed. Prepare reporting for Statistics Canada based on input from Financial Statements.
  • Prepare annual reporting for Conservation Ontario based on input from Financial Statements.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

What you offer

  • College diploma or University Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 1-3 years related job experience in an accounting department processing entries in accounting software system, data entry and maintaining excel templates.
  • Enrollment in a CPA program an asset.
  • Experience using financial templates in Microsoft Excel. Experience updating data in accounting systems using manual input or uploading from existing templates. Ability to identify issues within data, using trends, variance reviews. Proficient with Microsoft office suite including advanced knowledge of Excel, SharePoint, Sage300 or other accounting software system. Demonstrates personal initiative, sound judgement, and effective interpersonal skills. Strong organization and communication skills with the ability to function effectively and collaboratively with various employee groups and external contacts. Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Start Date January 2024

Hours of work

  • 35-hour work week, Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
  • This position is eligible for hybrid work.
