MCU leads postsecondary education policy and program development, provides over $5 billion in financial support to institutions, and supports students through programs such as the Ontario Student Assistance Program and the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant. In addition, the ministry supports research and commercialization by funding Ontario’s universities, colleges, and academic hospitals and by supporting world-class research institutes like the Perimeter Institute and the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research. The Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM), Financial Sustainability and Oversight reports to the Deputy Minister for MCU, David Wai. David is a skilled and knowledgeable leader, with a unique combination of public and private sector experience and designations in finance and engineering. Provide executive leadership and strategic direction for the planning, priority setting, and overall direction of the division and its responsibility with respect to the financial sustainability of the postsecondary education system so that all Ontarians have access and opportunities to postsecondary education
Work with institutions to ensure strong financial oversight and governance as well as effective management of financial sustainability opportunities and risks
Lead, direct, and oversee the administration and monitoring of financial investments (operating, capital, and special purpose grants) in the postsecondary system; data collection, integration and analysis for funding purposes; the projections of short-term enrolment and future cost pressures; and the monitoring and analysis of colleges’ and universities’ financial health
