The Assistant Manager, Financial Reporting is responsible for assisting in the preparation of financial statements, preparation of various analysis and ensuring compliance with IFRS. The Assistant Manager, Financial Reporting conducts research and performs analysis on complex accounting issues and will provide general accounting leadership to the department. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language utilized is English.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Leads the preparation of financial statement note disclosure ensuring compliance with IFRS standards
- Conducts research on IFRS accounting standards and developments and assesses their related impact
- Prepares monthly and quarterly variance analysis on financial statements
- Assists with the Company’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting program
- Conducts analysis on complex accounting issues
- Assists in the preparation of the Company’s annual report
- Prepares and reviews month end account reconciliations, including reconciliations to source systems
- Assists in supervising employees in the Accounting and Finance Department, including training, planning, assigning and directing work
- Liaison with internal and external auditors
- Supports process improvement, modernization, and automation initiatives
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation required
- Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience, public accounting experience is highly valued
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills, initiative, and ability to work independently
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Takes clear ownership and becomes an expert in a certain subject area, educating others in areas he/she is especially knowledgeable
- Ability to enable team members to achieve goals through clear instructions, support, and coaching.
- Competent knowledge of IFRS accounting standards
- Ability to research accounting standards and apply practical solutions to accounting issues
- Ability to work under tight deadlines with a keen sense of urgency
- Proficient in the use of MS Office software
- Insurance experience or CIP designation an asset
- Experience with PeopleSoft financials an asset
