They have a solid reputation and are known for their architectural excellence and dedicated team. They are looking for a Financial Controller to join their team and play a crucial role in overseeing their accounting, financial reporting, and project financing activities.
Your New Role
In this critical role, you will report directly to the President of the company and be responsible for two direct reports. You will oversee various accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger, and job costing. Your expertise will be instrumental in leading month-end closings, intercompany reconciliations, journal entries, bank reconciliations, and government remittances. You will be responsible for assisting the external auditors on annual financial statements, working paper files, and providing supporting documents to facilitate year-end review work. An essential aspect of your role involves ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements of the companies, including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI, EHT, and WSIB), Income Tax, and Goods and Services Tax. You will proactively manage dealings with CRA concerning follow-up questions and audits, particularly regarding HST returns and corporate tax matters. In addition to managing the financial aspects, you will actively engage in project property and project financing activities. Furthermore, you will prepare financing papers for bank loan applications, review loan agreements, and maintain the final signed versions. The role also entails overseeing the real estate and project lot closings process. You will review Real Estate Brokerage projects' commission rates and ensure proper insurance reconciliations. Additionally, you will reconcile final lot closings related to development and construction costs and review closing files from accounting and legal.
What Sets You Apart
The successful candidate for this role will have a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, along with a CPA/CA designation. You have at least ten years of financial accounting experience and have managed staff. Ideally, you have construction experience with the Home Builder software and if not, other accounting software systems. You have a proactive attitude towards updating and enhancing your accounting knowledge and are willing to adapt to changing regulations and industry best practices.
