  Financial Controller – Job description

Accounting & Finance:

  • Responsible for full cycle of accounting for the Crystal Homes companies; Responsible for AR, AP, GL and Job Cost Adagio ledgers, ensure the integrity of accounting records both in Adagio and Home Builder accounting system, and the accounting records filings; Review accounting staff tasks, in AP and AR invoices, and administrative help of cash deposits. Month end closings for Crystal Homes and all other companies: AR AP GL and JC records, intercompany reconciliations and intercompany billings, journal entries, bank reconciliations and government remittance etc. Annual financial statements working paper files preparations with Prior year comparatives   with supporting documents and schedules for the year end review work by the audit firm; Maintain annual project WIP reconciliations to Job costs subledger on project basis and annual basis; Ensure all statutory requirements of the companies are met including Charitable Status, Withholding Payments (CPP, EI, EHT and WSIB), Income Tax, Goods and Services Tax. Deal with CRA regarding the follow up questions/audit regarding HST return, Corp Tax etc. Maintain cash flow, Loan List and Loan Draw Certificate; Oversee bank accounts for all companies and watch out for the checks going NSF daily;   Manage project SLCs, LCs and cash management, such as GICs and any term deposits, and legal trust deposits reconciliations monthly. 

 

 

Project property and Project Financings:

 

  • Maintain Files for property acquisition agreements, update project loans list per financing needs for different projects; review project lots closing documents and book the closing JEs for any purchased new properties;  Job costing/proforma analysis of the construction costs of each project; Prepare financing papers for bank loans applications: Proforma, Project P&L analysis etc. Review loan agreements and maintain the final signed versions;

 

 

Real Estate & Projects lots closings:

 

  • Review Real Estate Brokerage projects commissions rates & prepare Real Estate Brokerage Commission calculations; Insurance reconciliations – Builder’s Risk insurance to make sure project is covered till final closings; Review final lots closings related development and construction costs, and reconciled to the related financing loan agreements; review closing file from accounting, and review SOAs from legal for the lots closings; Send to lawyer, purchaser(letter) and agent (email) the closing info after Kathy approval; Review final closing files from legal, and reconcile to Lots info in the books; Submit HST rebate forms for the eligible purchasers, and File HST returns accordingly; Prepare commission for the agent, or record commission on Agent’s spreadsheet;

 

 

Payroll & Administrative:

 

  • Review Timesheets every Monday or Tuesday before Payroll payment every Wednesday; Prepare government forms as needed, file annual T4 and T5018 filings. Monthly filings of EHT and WSIB, and year end EHT and WSIB reconciliations, and prepare for the annual filings; HR Duty: Employee benefit maintenance, set up any new employees and take off the departed employees on the benefits plan, and related ROE reparation for the departed; Vacation records track and employee files maintenance; Company car insurance annual renewal, Esso Cards and others company credit cards maintained; Various insurance certificates managements for the different projects under development or construction; Prepare files for HCRA project VB application and Tarion QFE applications;

 

 

Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by the President, such as:

 

  • Update Procedure Handbooks for accounting team; Maintain Electronic filings updated and complete; File project company Vendor & Builder HCRA license application, and Tarion QFE application. Seeking ways to streamline the business process and procedures; Auto link different sources of files to improve effectiveness;

Requirement

  • At least 5 - 10 years senior level experience; CPA CA  candidates preferred;
