Role Description
As a Manager, Accounting, you will be responsible for
- Provide reporting to the parent bank, regulatory institutions, and senior management
- Take a leading role in calculating monthly corporate income tax and preparing annual returns
- Take a leading role in external audits
Reporting
- Manage the delivery of monthly and quarterly financials (P&L and Balance Sheet) on a timely basis while ensuring data accuracy and completeness
- Manage the delivery of timely and relevant financial performance analysis such as month-by month net income fluctuation for Senior Management
- Review financial data to Parent bank (Shinhan Bank Korea)
- Financial reporting to regulatory institutions (Office of Superintendent Financial Institutions, OSFI) and Bank of Canada, Statistics Canada and analysis upon OSFI’s request
- Review Differential Premium By-law and Return of Insured Deposits (RID) and prepare the semi-annual payment to CDIC
Tax
- Review RSP withholding tax process to CRA
- Review withholding taxes amount regarding Parent Bank borrowing and deliver it to business support department for the payment to CRA
- Take a leading role corporate income tax: prepare the monthly installment, calculate the monthly income tax, calculate the year-end tax due including thin capitalization impacts, and work closely with external reviewer for final filing (T2)
- Report the tax slip returns to CRA (prepared by IT and reviewed by Branches) and follow-up any errors with CRA
- Review CRA account balance or Notice of Assessment for tax returns and communicate with CRA for any discrepancies
Audit
- Take a lead role in executing the annual external Financial Audit process - working closely with the company’s third party auditors
- Prepare the audited financial statements with all disclosures
- Prepare documents/worksheets required by auditors and provide explanation upon request
Other Accounting related work
- Participate in ad-hoc projects to support CFO
- Prepare new COA or change request to Parent bank and IT department
- Advise other departments or branches for any necessary requests such as prepaid expense recognition or tax slip preparation
- Train and guide the team members
- Review accounting policy
- Support reconciliation tasks when necessary
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in business related field with an emphasis in finance or accounting, or equivalent combination of education
Work Experience Requirements:
- Minimum 5 -7 years of relevant experience
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong computer skills and advanced excel skills are a must
- Good organizational and communication skills to manage workload, communicate with teams and effective assist
- Knowledge of accounting principles
- Great organizational skills, ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Remains flexible to withstand unpredictable changes to schedule and deadlines
Professional Certification/Membership Requirements: CPA Preferred
