The Director of Finance provides leadership to Norfolk General Hospital and West Haldimand General Hospital and is responsible for the overall administrative oversight of finance and payroll services in accordance with departmental and Hospital policies. The Director of Finance will help to determine the financial strategy and policy, work with the CFO, and arrange appropriate funding and manage the financial risks of the organization.  The Director of Finance ensures that high quality services are provided in an efficient and effective manner and will co-ordinate and organize activities into an integrated service in accordance with the respective Hospital’s mission, vision, philosophy, and values. The Director is responsible for the planning, development, management, activities, and evaluation of the department. This includes standardization in the areas of technology, process and procedures. The Director reports to the Vice-President of Finance of the Hospital.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all operational aspects of Norfolk and West Haldimand General Hospital’s Finance department(s) to ensure efficient and appropriate processing of the Hospital’s finances and that they comply with NGH and WHGH policy and provincial/federal legislation.
  • Accurate and timely reporting of internal and external financial and statistical information and analysis.
  • Ensures appropriate allocation and use of resources within the operating and capital budgets. Ensures adequate internal controls. Preparation and management of annual external audit function, and reviews as required and working with the external auditors Identifies, plans strategies for and evaluates impact of process changes and improvements. Provides advice on financial matters impacting the organization as a whole Identifies opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation. Works with CFO to maintain bank relationships and negotiating mortgages or loans. Manages risk and improves financial processes by ensuring that cash flows are adequate to allow the organization to operate effectively Provides analytical support to Directors and Managers. Leads and tracks the workload measurement program to capture and report in timely fashion. Establishes, implements and evaluates specific policies and procedures ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements Acts as a leader and advisor to analysts and payroll teams; hire, train and supervise accounting staff and payroll staff Recommends and maintains a system of policies and procedures that impose an adequate level of control over Finance Department activities Adheres to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions.
