Founded more than one hundred years ago, the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is a globally renowned institution celebrated for its multidisciplinary collections, ground-breaking research, and iconic architecture. Spanning art, culture, and nature from around the world and across the ages, the Museum’s comprehensive collection, coupled with its exceptional exhibitions, installations, and programs that speak to diverse audiences, has made the ROM a leading cultural destination for local, national, and international visitors.
Welcoming more than 1.3 million people annually, the ROM is the most attended museum in Canada and ranks among the top 10 cultural institutions in North America. And as a globally recognized field research institute, home to more than 13 million artworks, cultural objects and natural history specimens featured in over 40 galleries and exhibitions spaces, ROM is also one of the few truly multidisciplinary museums in the world.
With the ROM poised for continued growth and innovation, this is an exciting time to be joining the Executive Leadership Team. The organization is committed to a strategy of investing in exceptional talent at the senior level, with the goal of fully integrating strategic, financial, operational, and programmatic planning. The new Deputy Director & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a key strategic business partner for issues related to finance and will have a seat at the table in setting the overall strategic direction of the institution.
The ideal candidate will be a broadly skilled, senior, sophisticated finance leader with experience in a for-profit, non-profit or public sector environment, ideally with a solid understanding of government. The role will appeal to an accomplished professional who appreciates the importance of museums as a resource for Ontarians, as a connector to people’s passions, and as a vehicle for community engagement. You will bring both vision and execution skills, be comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done, have change management experience, act as a coach and mentor for the team, and be inspired by an ever-changing and evolving work environment and the unique assets of the ROM’s collections and expertise. You will have an education appropriate to the position, with excellent accountancy/finance qualifications, and a minimum of 15 years’ experience at an executive level.
